FAA Orders Inspections of 737 Max Jets After Cracks Found in Older Planes The Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) directive to inspect hundreds of planes for cracks in the structural reinforcement around the forward service door has raised questions about the reliability of Boeing's manufacturing process.
The order applies to 471 planes in the U. S. and 1,429 worldwide. Boeing had previously notified operators of its 737 Next Generation planes of the issue in 2019, providing instructions for conducting inspections.
The company extended these inspections to include its 737 Max fleet, citing similarities in design and build process between the two models.
